Make it (Safely) Home for the Holidays this Year

The holidays are a wonderful time to create lasting memories with friends and family, to strengthen existing relationships, make new friends, and celebrate all that is “merry and bright.” Sure, it’s kind of a hectic time with last minute shopping, overbooked schedules, and wondering where all your money went.

But those minor frustrations can should never be overshadowed by something worse. Unfortunately, with distracted driving on the rise due to cell phone usage, that is happening all too often.

On the off chance you’ve been to traffic school due to one to many speeding tickets (just me?) you probably learned that a car traveling at 55 miles per hour travels the length of a football field in the length of time it takes to read a text. Let that sink in. A football field. Football players don’t even travel down the field without watching where they are going. That would be too dangerous and obviously stupid. It’s common sense that would be way too dangerous and just plain stupid. So why would someone do that in a car that weighs  4,000 lbs? But so many of us do.  A study published in 2011 by the U.S. Center for Disease Control shows that 31% of drivers age 18 to 64 had read or sent a mobile text while driving during a 30 day period. The numbers are likely much higher today.

Additionally, they report that every day 8 people are killed and 1,161 injured due to distracted driving. What people don’t realize is that is distracts your eyes, your hands, and your brain to e using your cell phone while talking, which is why it poses one of the greatest risks of anything you could be doing while driving.

There is never a good time for bad news, but the holidays especially. The MILK App was created to help ensure the holidays truly are a time to treasure the joyful moments in your life. Don’t put yourself at risk by not using common sense. Milk every moment you get to be with loved ones this holiday season!
